The inaugural Tattersalls Online Treo Eile Summer Sale featured the sale of Fly Right By (lot 1) on Wednesday.
Brian Flynn paid 5,000gns for the son of Jet Away. Consigned by Nicki Russell, the five-year-old gelding has already finished second in the Raheendaw Horse & Pony Show Novice Tattersalls Ireland Treo Eile Showing Class, as well as third at the same show's Novice Thoroughbred Performance Class. Last month the relative of Grade 1-winning chaser Abolitionist (Flemensfirth) was second in the Gorey Agricultural Show Tattersalls Ireland Treo Eile Showing Class.
Wednesday's sale marked an important milestone in the development of the retrained racehorse sector, providing a dedicated online marketplace for thoroughbreds embarking on second careers. Held alongside the Tattersalls Ireland July Show, the carefully selected catalogue attracted interest from Britain, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Spain and the Gulf region.
The sale generated almost 6,000 page views across the catalogue and featured horses with proven performance records in disciplines including showjumping, eventing, dressage, working hunter and showing. Interest has continued beyond the close of the sale, with enquiries received for a number of unsold lots, which remain available on Tattersalls Online's 'Make Offer' facility.
